– It is essential to increase awareness of the condition and status of women and girls related to employment. discrimination, education, violence, and home life and to promote the advancement of women and girls.
– If you diminish a woman, you diminish a people.
– It is essential to educate our community about the needs of women and pay tribute to women who have made a difference in the lives of others.
– It is essential to advocate public policies granting women equality.
The Gainesville Commission on the Status of Women (GCOSW) was established in 1980 by the Gainesville City Commission. It’s mission is to serve as an advisory board and to advocate on behalf of women in the community. In 1994 the Commission reorganized as a non-profit organization and continues to advocate on behalf of women and girls in our community.
